Advances in Human Nutrition (E09V0A)
The course gives a broad overview on aspects of food and related compounds, the influence on health, and the potential of these compounds to the prevention and/or treatment of diseases. A general basic knowledge on the intake, digestion, metabolism and interactions of these compounds will be provided. The role of the different food compounds in meeting energy and nutritient needs will be discussed and determined. Topics that will be discussed during the course are: - Energy metabolism - Nutrition and metabolism of proteins, carbohydrates and lipds - Vitamins en minerals - Nutrition Research Methodology - Nutrition related disorders (eg obesity, cardiovascular diseases)
