Hot Topics in Cytokine and Growth Factor Receptor Signal Transduction in Health and Disease (E08F6A)
The major aim is to deepen and update the students’ knowledge in the biochemistry of cytokine and growth factor signal transduction. However, rather than focusing on normal biological processes (like in other courses, including these in developmental biology), the idea is here to explain to the students - the biochemistry of the signal transduction, - the consequences of deregulated production of growth factors or aberrant interpretation of the signals, - the connected therapeutic potential of these growth factors and their signal transduction system in the treatment of disease, - emerging paradigms on the interface between signal transduction and cell biology, - examples of drugs that interfere with growth factor action.
The course would not strive at including knowledge on action mechanisms at the level of transcription factors in the nucleus at the endpoint of the cascade. This course is a deepening of the knowledge gained in Advances in cytokine and growth factor recepter signal transduction.
The aim is an informal discussion of selected research articles taken from international peer review journals
